The Ceylon Independent of February 25, 1907, had the following paragraphs: “ In 1862 the fam ous Migettuwatte, the silver-tongued orator, went over the island of Ceylon, preaching Buddhism; thousands flocked to hear him and in 1873 came off the great discussion between him and the Rev. David De Silva, the proceed ings of which appeared in the daily news papers.
