Matthew, for example, considers bullying to be ritualized and, therefore, a harmless part of initiating younger boys into the single sex Catholic boarding school he attends: It can get a bit out of hand but a lot of it is just like getting you initiated, but not bad initiation. Once they hit Year 9 then it’s over and then it’s the next year’s turn. It’s not actually bullying where they get victimized and most of them actually don’t mind.
