RADIATION If one needles certain parts of the body and, most particularly, if one needles the periosteum, the patient may feel a radiation. This radiation may (Fig. 2): 1 Go down the back of the leg – perhaps slightly more often; 2 Go down the medial side of the leg; 32 RADIATION AND THE NON-EXISTENT MERIDIANS Fig. 2 33 REINVENTING ACUPUNCTURE 3 Go down the lateral side of the leg; 4 Go down the anterior side of the leg; 5 Go down the leg a few centimetres or to the knee or ankle or toes; 6 Go completely from one end of the leg to the other or only appear in, say, the shin or ankle – on other occasions only a small section is left out; 7 Be a band only a few millimetres across, like a miniature railway track; 8 Be a band covering a quarter or half or the whole of the surface of the leg; 9 Feel as if it is inside the leg, as a narrow channel, a wide channel or occupying the whole leg.
Being a Strong Reactor or Normal Reactor has nothing to do 52 STRONG REACTORS AND DRUGS with a neurotic tendency or phlegmatic tendency; being thin or fat; being tall or short; being clever, intelligent or dumb; being male or female, young or old; being physically sturdy or a weakling; being well educated or poorly educated; having a skin which is white, black, yellow or brown; having finely chiselled features or coarse features; being honest or a liar; being rich or poor; belonging to the nobility or being a peasant.
I have the impression from my practice that the majority of the side-effects of drugs, particularly if they are not too severe, are not mentioned by the patient to their general practitioner, as they know from previous experience that it arouses little interest, or ‘you have to balance the benefit against the adverse reaction’. I am sure that the commonest cause for both mild and severe adverse reactions is due to the prescription of the wrong dose to Strong Reactors. If this were more generally recognised, orthodox drug-based medicine would lose some of its dangers and become (to put it in modern parlance) more ‘user friendly’.
