Some PBL modules are designed primarily to emphasize skills such as information mining and collaboration; as such the nature of the problem presented and the learning environment designed will be very different. The kind of PBL to be infused into the curriculum also depends on the profile and maturity of the students and their previous experiences, the flexibility of the existing curriculum, assessment expectations, and the time and resources available. The lifewide goals of the PBL module will have implications on the degree of facilitation, mediation and scaffolding needed.
