A t many times i n many places, diseases have been the main factors limiting profitable rubber growing. In India (S3) a committee recently listed 14 commonly encountered serious rubber diseases i n that country. Steinmann (43) long before that had listed 33 such diseases in the Netherlands Indies. There were 37 diseases f a i r l y recently listed by E d g a r i n M a l a y a (12), while Sharpies in 1936 (40) listed 91 genera, m a k i n g up 94 species of fungi attacking rubber in that country, although some of these were of comparatively minor effect.
