The 1st NATO technology discussion board used to be held in Biarritz in September 1990. This Taormina convention is the second one in a chain that we want to be a protracted one and that i think that it has equalled the good fortune of its predecessor. In establishing those conferences the NATO technology Committee desired to assemble prime specialists to check fields of robust current curiosity.

A t many times i n many places, diseases have been the main factors limiting profitable rubber growing. In India (S3) a committee recently listed 14 commonly encountered serious rubber diseases i n that country. Steinmann (43) long before that had listed 33 such diseases in the Netherlands Indies. There were 37 diseases f a i r l y recently listed by E d g a r i n M a l a y a (12), while Sharpies in 1936 (40) listed 91 genera, m a k i n g up 94 species of fungi attacking rubber in that country, although some of these were of comparatively minor effect.
