Similarly, past research also indicates that reducing AFQT category I–IIIA targets lowers soldier performance and could increase the training burden (Orvis, Childress, and Polich (1992), Winkler, Fernandez, and Polich (1992)). In its new pilot program—“GED Plus”—the Army is attempting to manage these risks through enhanced screening tests.
