A bacterial strain (No 101) decomposing CSH. Corn Seed Hemicellulose 21 H. HEMICELLULOSE OF CORN SEED The isolating and purifing procedure of CSH was published already (2). 05 %. The CSH thus obtained was greyish powder and dissolved in water as a milky white and semitransparent solution (4). The mean molecular weight was determined as about 730,000 by a gel-filtration method (5). 08 % (in dry matter). 7 % (as pentose). The CSH was composed of xylose, arabinose mainly (about 90-95 %, xylose^arabinose), and of galacturonic acid, glucose and galactose in small amounts respectively.
