Semantic and episodic memory are distinguished as meaningful long-term memory and memory for specific episodes, respectively. Semantic memory is discussed in terms of the roles of language and imagery in traditional and current views of concepts and concept formation. Episodic memory is discussed in terms of the cooperative activity of language and imagery in representing events.
