Where Grades 1, 2 and 3 were based on the mitotic ratio indicating low, medium and high malignancy a correlation was found between the grade and the 5-year survival figure. T h e 5-year survival figure in Grade 1 was 67 per cent, in Grade 2 15 per cent and in Grade 3 nil. Actual survival was very different from the expected survival in 20 per cent of the cases (Price, 1961). All authors agree that the best prognosis is parosteal sarcoma and the worst is osteosarcoma with underlying Paget's disease.
